Wilder

Senior Capstone

Wilder is a statement about self-expression and a reflection of the individuality that one can put forth through making music. Jambands are the pinnacle of loving your craft and committing themselves to their work, regardless of its success. What better way to capture these stories than the “dying art” of print?

October was the research phase, which consisted of drafting studies of existing magazine layouts to understand what elements were successful and engaging, contacting local bands to "feature" and examine the professional relationship of that process, and creating thumbnail sketches to capture the feeling of the content.

Layouts, layouts, and more layouts. A month is not a long time to conceptualize, edit, and complete a 25-page concept magazine. That said, it was a worthwhile exploration of type as a visual and design as a tool to broadcast expression.

Presenting Wilder was just as important as creating it. Representing niche Bozeman jam bands was the motivation behind this publication, so it was crucial to share it to get the eyes on it and get them thinking about the scene.
